Monsignor Hawes
John Cyril Hawes (Monsignor Hawes) was an architect and priest who was born in the United Kingdome in 1876.
He served as a priest in the Church of England before converting to Roman Catholic.
When he was ordained as a Catholic priest in Rome in 1915, he was then sent to Geradton Western Australia where he worked as priest, architect and builder.
His work in church design and architecture earned him the title of Monsignor by Pope Pius XI.
His work is dotted across the Med West region of Western Australia including; The Cathedral of St Francis Xavier Geraldton - Nazareth House Geraldton - Cemetery Chapel of the Holy Spirit Geraldton - Hermitage Geradton - The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Mullewa.
